Florida State University Flying High Circus Performers In Panama City Beach

Chad, the Director of the FSU Circus, is a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has been involved with the program for the last 15 years, as both a student performer and administrator. Chad—who is from Jacksonville—considers Circus by the Sea a landmark opportunity. He is looking forward to having summer programming in the state of Florida for the first time in FSU Circus history.

April Brown is a senior Dietetics major from Palm Harbor, Fla. A fourth-year performer, she has followed in the footsteps of her mother, an FSU Circus alumna. April performs Teeterboard, Mexican Cloud Swing, Skating, Balancing and Flying Trapeze. She is thrilled to be part of Circus by the Sea’s inaugural summer.

Shannon is a fifth-year performer from Plantation, FL. She recently graduated with a Masters degree in Historical Administration and Public History. Shannon plans to embark on a career in museum education; developing programs that help people understand the importance of our cultural heritage and how it impacts our lives today. Shannon serves as the ringmaster for the Circus and is excited to help develop a new program for the FSU Circus and Panama City Beach.

James, a South FL native, recently graduated from FSU in Criminology. After Circus by the Sea, he plans to attend Naval Officer Candidate School. James has performed eight acts over his circus career, including High Casting, Rolla Rolla, Chinese Pole and Quartette Adagio. James is passionate about the FSU Circus & excited to see the joint venture with Circus by the Sea come to fruition.

circus_performerCasey Dellinger
Casey has been part of the FSU Circus for four years. A senior majoring in Exercise Science, she came to FSU from St. Petersburg, FL, where she was a competitive gymnast for 10 years. Once she graduates, Casey hopes to start a circus-style physical therapy program for children. Casey performs Sky Pole, Triple Trapeze and Mexican Cloud Swing. She is passionate about performing and excited to bring the joy of circus to the Florida Panhandle.

circus_performerDanny Labrador
Danny, a senior from Miami, FL, has recently graduated with honors in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. He will attend graduate school at FSU and eventually become a successful inventor. While we can’t give away any of his secrets, Danny recently finished his honor thesis on carbon nanotubes and their composite applications. Danny performs Quartette Adagio and is a catcher on the Flying Trapeze. He is excited to be a part of Circus by the Sea and the start of a new tradition for the FSU Circus.

circus_performerDeirdre Lahey
Deirdre is originally from Jacksonville, FL, where she was a competitive gymnast for nine years. She recently received her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, and is applying to medical school to become a Doctor of Osteopathy. She has performed with the FSU Circus for the last four years, participating in Balancing, Teeterboard, Cradle and Flying Trapeze. Deirdre is enthusiastic to be a part of the FSU Circus’ new venture in Panama City Beach.

Chris Marcellus
Chris is a junior Sport Management major from Orlando, FL. He is the 2008 recipient of the Jack Haskin Alumni Award, an honor bestowed upon him by his peers for showing an extraordinary ability to be helpful, enthusiastic and maintain a positive attitude toward the FSU Circus and the University. Chris performs Flying Trapeze and Juggling and is thrilled to be a part of Circus By The Sea and to be performing in Panama City Beach.

Charley has been with the FSU Circus for four years. Hailing from Clearwater, Fla., he participates in Juggling, Quartette Adagio, Sky Pole and Teeterboard. In 2007, Charley received the FSU Circus’ prestigious Haskin Award, which is presented to the performer considered most cooperative and enthusiastic.

George is a senior Environmental Studies major. Hailing from Crystal River, Fla., he performs acts like Rolla Rolla, Cradle and Flying Trapeze. After graduating, George hopes to continue his circus career by coaching or performing.

Tara has just graduated with a degree in Graphic Design and a passion for performing arts. She grew up in Boulder, CO, where she spent 10 years as a competitive gymnast. Tara plans to continue her circus career in a professional capacity working for one of several acrobatic performance arts companies, such as Cirque du Soleil or Disney. Tara performs various acts, including Hanging Perch, Sky Pole, Balancing, Flying Trapeze and Mexican Cloud Swing. She is thrilled to be working with Circus by the Sea this summer and helping young people develop a passion for circus.

circus_performerNate Stapp
Nate is the Associate Director of the FSU Circus. With more than a decade of coaching and performance experience, he is an excellent source of insight and skill. Nate—whose specialty is the Flying Trapeze—was a student performer in the FSU Circus from 2002 to 2005. Over the years, he has directed circus programs at the Sports and Arts Center at Island Lake, as well as Club Med. In addition, Nate has toured Europe as a professional trapeze artist.

Originally from Chico, CA, Dana was in the army and graduated from the Defense Language Institute. From there she attended FSU, where she recently graduated with a degree in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic. Dana will begin graduate school at FSU in the fall, studying Religion, Ethics and Philosophy. She performs Double Trapeze, Flying Trapeze and Quartette Adagio. Dana is eager to work with Circus by the Sea and hopes to make a positive impression in campers’ lives. She is also excited to extend the reach of the FSU Circus to the Florida Panhandle.

Scott is a junior Business Management major from Orlando, FL. The FSU Circus was a natural calling for Scott, as his parents met when they were participating in the Circus together years ago. After graduation, Scott plans to pursue a career in banking. In the Circus, he performs Juggling, Teeterboard, Cradle and Sky Pole. Scott is excited to be forging a new path for the FSU Circus and Circus by the Sea in Panama City Beach, and plans to be back next summer!

Jack is a graduate student majoring in Urban and Regional Planning. A native of West Palm Beach, FL, he hopes to attend FSU Law School next fall to pursue a career in Environmental Law. While most performers join the Circus their freshman year, Jack joined as a sophomore. His plan was simply to take Circus Class to round out his course load, but he became hooked and has been involved ever since. Jack performs Double Trapeze, Teeterboard, Quartette Adagio and is a catcher on the Flying Trapeze. Jack is excited about spending his summer in Panama City Beach and being a part of Circus By The Sea’s inaugural season.

circus_performerChris Schultz Chris is a senior from DeBary, FL. A Mechanical Engineering major, Chris is active in research at FSU in conjunction with the Air Force, working with smart materials and microactuation. Chris performs Flying Trapeze, Chinese Pole and Teeterboard. Happy to be spending the summer in Panama City Beach, Chris is very excited to be part of the program’s inaugural summer.

Sarah Siefke is a recreation management graduate student from Ft. Walton Beach, FL. After her tenure at FSU, Sarah hopes to enter a Physician Assistant degree program. In the Circus, Sarah performs Balancing, Mexican Cloud Swing and Teeterboard. She is excited to be a part of Circus by the Sea, performing & teaching circus skills to young campers.

Milla is a Recreation & Leisure Services major from Ft. Myers, FL. After graduating, she plans to pursue a career in wildlife rescue and forestry. A forth-year performer, Milla participates in Rolla Rolla, Roman Rings, Double Trapeze & High Casting, and serves as Ringmaster for some FSU Circus performances. A woman of many talents, Milla also competes in the sport of rodeo barrel racing. She is thrilled to be part of establishing a new program in Panama City Beach & forging the partnership between the FSU Circus & Circus by the Sea.

Jessica is a senior from Jacksonville, FL. After graduation, she plans to move to a big city to begin a career in Apparel Design, possibly in Costuming. Jessica already has quite a bit of experience under her belt, having designed and created many of the costumes for the Circus. With a background in Dance, Jessica is a natural for Circus. She performs Slack Wire, Bike for Five, Swinging Trapeze and Spanish Web. Jessica is excited to be spending the summer in Panama City Beach and being a part of the FSU Circus as it embarks on a promising new endeavor.

Josh just graduated from FSU with a BA in International Affairs and Geography. He plans on attending graduate school in the fall, studying urban and regional planning with a focus on growth management. A Melbourne, FL native, Josh is looking forward to a career as a city planner who promotes economic development while ensuring environmental sustainability. Josh performs Juggling, Low Casting, Skating and Sky Pole, and is thrilled to be spending the summer performing and helping establish a circus day camp in Panama City Beach.
